Indian Head Massage is a treatment which is based on an age old tradition of massage practised by men and women in families across India for thousands of years.
The shoulders, arms, neck, head and face are massaged by a series of techniques, both soothing and stimulating to alleviate stress and to improve circulation. This treatment brings a deep level of relaxation by massage and then uses various pressure points on the scalp and back of the head. These have been found to be centres of energy in Aryuvedic medicine.
Indian Head Massage was first introduced to the West by a blind physiotherapy student named Narendra Mehta. He discovered that western massage techniques did not include the head or face and returned to India to research the different types of massage techniques that were practised and in doing so formulated his own Indian Head Massage techniques which are taught by teachers around the UK.
